Darlington, S.C. – Jeff Gordon, a seven-time winner at Darlington Raceway visited the track “Too Tough To Tame” today for the raceway’s annual Bojangles’ Southern 500 Media Day.
Fans lined the entrance to the raceway’s ticket office for hours to purchase tickets and get an autograph from the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Jeff Gordon was at the raceway promoting the upcoming Bojangles’ Southern 500 and a special AARP Drive to End Hunger ticket package.
The package included a scanner and a Q&A session with Gordon in the driver’s tent prior to the start of the Bojangles’ Southern 500. Located in the Pearson Grandstand, the package was only $89, and $10 from every ticket purchased will be donated back to the AARP Foundation.
After talking with fans and handing out autographed commemorative tickets featuring all seven wins, Clea Smith of nearby, Rockingham, N.C. was able to ride along with Jeff Gordon in the pace car after his name was selected from a drawing of all the fans who participated in the event.
Jeff Gordon also visited The Lord Cares, a local food bank in downtown Darlington to deliver boxes of non-perishable food items donated by track partner, Bojangles. The AARP Foundation donated $5,000 as well.
